Ascent Trip Report

In the town of Fawnskin on the north side of Big Bear Lake take Rim of the World Drive which is a paved road heading NW from highway 38. After 0.4 mile the pavement ends and a sign indicates forest road 3N14. Continue on this graded road until you reach a junction with route 3N12 at 1.8 miles where you turn right (north). At 2.2 miles go straight at a junction where route 2N71 branches off to the right. Then at 2.3 miles turn left onto route 2N84. After 0.2 miles or 2.5 miles from Fawnskin turn left on an unsigned road where there is a picnic table on the right. At 2.9 miles stop and park at a point where the road turns to the right and starts up a steep hill. A 4WD vehicle is needed to get up the rocky grade which has one high boulder presenting a clearance problem. It is only a short walk to the summit and driving the hill is hardly worth the effort. Walk from here up the hill and then down to a saddle and then up another hill where the road turns left(south). The road ends at the top of a steep hill in a small flat area which would make an interesting camp spot. UTM here is: 502800E, 3794340N. From here it is only a very short walk of about 100 yards to the top. From the first parking spot the walk is only 0.4 miles and takes about 20 minutes with an elevation gain of maybe 200 ft. 6/95 RLC
