Ascent Trip ReportApproach the mountain from the north on dirt roads north of Signal Mountain. At a junction south of railroad tracks at UTM: 324060E, 3680900N start your odometer and drive on a good road toward Webb Well. Reach the well after 1.5 miles and continue to a junction at 3.3 miles and turn left. At 3.8 miles bear left at another well and at 5.2 miles turn right along a fence. At 5.3 miles go left through a gate. At 6.0 miles go right at a "T" junction. UTM here is: 325000E, 3674800N. There is a rough 4WD section here through a wash. At 6.2 miles go left along a fence toward the mountain and park at the end of the road at about 7.2 miles in a rough rocky area. This is the trailhead, 1.36 miles from the peak and the UTM is: 324290E, 3673180N. From here hike south to a steep triangular-shaped section of lava rock which will lead up to the upper section of the peak. Make your way up the steep slopes and ledges and you will come out near the high point. The benchmark Gila Peak 1949, is 200 ft. west and does not appear to be quite as high. The hike requires about 1 1/2 hours for the ascent and 1 hour to return. 2/96 RLC
