To reach the trailhead, exit Interstate 8 at Sidewinder Road which is about 8 miles west of Winterhaven. Go north on the good graded dirt road and cross a railroad track at 0.2 miles and then at 2.0 miles turn right onto Barney Road which is BLM route A391. Stay on this road and go right at a fork at 5.1 miles and go under a power line at 7.0 miles. Then at 7.5 miles turn right at a fork and at 11.2 miles you will come to a four-way intersection and a BLM sign which indicates the end of road A391. Turn sharp left here and then turn right after 0.1 miles onto a fair dirt road which will lead up a broad canyon and end in 0.9 miles. The road is generally good and a high-clearance, non-4WD vehicle should make it without difficulty. There is suitable flat camping at the end of the road for several vehicles. UTM for this location is 091398. The summit is visible from here on a bearing of 295 degrees. Hike from here heading generally NW up the wash. At UTM 067409, which is about 1.5 miles up the canyon, head due north at a fork. The canyon narrows and turns NW and at UTM 064414 turn left where the canyon divides and proceed up the canyon on a bearing of 250 degrees. After some steep climbing reach the ridge top slightly south of the summit and climb over slabs to the top. This route is 4.5 miles round-trip with an elevation gain of 1340 ft. Ascent time is 2 1/2 hours and allow 2 hours to return. 2/95 RLC
