Ascent Trip ReportThe climb is best done from the north side which can be reached from highway 86. At the Gu Achi Trading Post head southeast toward Sells. After about 1.9 miles note a historical marker on your right. In a short distance after this sign turn right onto a good dirt road with a sign "Boys Ranch". This turn is also 0.3 miles SE of milepost 94. Note the following mileages from highway 86: after 0.6 miles turn left onto a poor dirt track. In a short distance, about 0.2 miles, go right at a junction. At 1.6 miles continue straight at a junction on your right. After 2.3 miles there is an unlocked gate which you will have to open. Then at 4.9 miles go left at a junction. At 7.4 miles go straight and at 7.9 miles make a sharp left turn after crossing a ditch. You may have to back up to make this turn. At 9.4 miles there is a gate. At 9.9 miles there is a good camping area at San Antone well. From here go another 1.2 miles southwest on a rough road and park. UTM here is: 390702E, 3543095N. Hike southwest about 1/2 mile and turn east into a large canyon. Follow the canyon as it turns south then turn right up steep slopes to a point at UTM 391100E and 3541300N. From here head south to the west side of point 3792 feet and descend to a broad saddle and go south up the final slopes to the summit. The route is about 4 miles round-trip with a gain of 1800 feet. Allow about two hours for the ascent and 1 1/2 hours to return. 2/01 RLC
