Ascent Trip Report

Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) Cross Country Trails provide access to Jackson Hill summit across about 175 yards of bushwacking from trails in thick woods. BREIA is a ski for free on one of the largest groomed cross-country systems in the East with over 50 Km of trails in a reliable snow belt between the Adirondacks and the Tug Hill Plateau. I snowshoed alongside trails as requested, with no walking allowed or snowmobiles either. Another consideration is that all Jackson Hill trails are closed to the public Monday-Friday 9am-1pm (except holidays) due to private programming. Tho I snowshoed to summit, I believe I could have easily wove my way thru woods along my short skis by somewhat following herd paths thru thickest of evergreens and blowdown.
