Ascent Trip ReportIn Grants on the main east-west street, which is Santa Fe Ave., turn north on route 547. Follow this through a turn a 0.8 miles then turn left at 1.8 miles. Follow 547 for about 13 miles to where the pavement ends. Continue straight on a good dirt road which is route 239. After 3.2 miles on the dirt road turn right onto forest road 453. Follow this good road and pass a toilet and camping area after 1.9 miles. At 3.1 miles turn right onto 453. The road is rough from here on and four-wheel drive is advised. Then at 4.4 miles at a high crest turn right and go 0.1 miles and park at the Gooseberry trailhead sign. Hike this trail to the top which takes about 1/2 hour. There is a road going west from the trailhead sign, but it has large rocks and is not worth the effort. It does not go to the summit, but curves around the west side of the mountain. The summit has very good views in all directions and there is a register. 10/01 RLC
