Ascent Trip ReportThis peak can be reached by hiking east from the Ajo Mountain Loop Road in the Monument. Starting across from the visitor's center, take the loop road which you must follow clockwise. It is mostly good graded dirt and is suitable for most all cars. The loop has numbered information posts. After 12.7 miles park on your left at a small pullout by info post #14. There is room for a maximum of four vehicles here. UTM here is: 338730E, 3540823N. Start the hike heading southwest and then turn west after about half a mile toward the distant ridgeline. You should head to the left (north) side of a small peak at 2358 feet shown on the map. Then turn southwest to the ridge in the middle of two drainages. UTM on the ridge is: 342500E, 3539220N. Continue climbing the ridge and follow it south up to a saddle at 3420 feet. UTM at the saddle is: 342770E, 3538260N. Climb the steep ridge heading southwest from the saddle to the peak on a flat plateau. This ridge has some third class scrambling on good rock. There is some radio gear south of the highest point where the register is located. The route is about 7 miles round-trip with a gain of 1900 feet. Allow about 2 1/2 hours to reach the summit and 2 hours to return. 11/00 RLC
