Ascent Trip ReportHigh point of Douglas County, NV.
During summer and early fall one can often drive to near the top of East Peak with a four-wheel drive vehicle. From South Lake Tahoe or from Minden, Nevada take highway 207 to Daggett Pass and turn south into the North Heavenly Valley Ski community. Drive south on a good paved road for about 1.4 miles to where there is a sign on the right marking a turn to the Eagles Nest Inn. Take this right turn and pass the Inn to a gate where the road turns to dirt. If the gate is open continue for about 0.3 miles and turn right up the hill. At 1.5 miles go straight at a junction and then go right at 2.1 miles. At 2.3 miles pass by the structures at East Peak Lake. The road makes a couple of switchbacks up an open slope then turns north passing the North Bowl lift at 2.9 miles. At 3.2 miles and 3.9 miles go right at junctions. The road ends at about 4.5 miles after a sharp switchback up to a parking area by a hut and ski lift tower. From here it is a short walk and easy scramble over boulders to the summit with its radio repeaters. Note: this road can be quite busy and dusty at times with heavy construction vehicles so be prepared to yield at the narrow places and drive cautiously. 10/00 RLC
