Ascent Trip ReportTo reach the trailhead on the west side drive north from Bridgeport about 15 miles on route 395 to a sign marked "Bircham Flat Road" (correct spelling is Burcham) and turn right. Follow this very good graded dirt road for 4.3 miles and turn right onto a road marked "067". From here drive 6.2 miles to Lobdell Lake and turn left along the west side of the lake. Several places in the road along the lake may have deep water in the early summer. Drive north past the lake for 2.1 miles to a junction with a sign "116" and turn right. Follow this road which has some steep, rocky sections which will require four-wheel drive. The road climbs up to about 10,000 feet and I suggest parking after 2.3 miles just before the road drops into a canyon where there is a "Road Closed" sign. UTM here is: 296615E, 4258077N in zone 11S. From here park and hike southeast on the road which will make several switchbacks and head up toward the south side of Mt. Patterson. The road goes very close to the top and you only have to head north a hundred feet or so at the highest point on the road to reach the cairn and register. The hike is about 4.5 miles round-trip with an elevation gain of 1700 ft. Allow 1 1/2 hours to reach to summit and the same time to return. 7/00 RLC
