|Date:||Tuesday, July 13, 1999|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|

Ascent Trip ReportFrom central Flagstaff take highway 180 north and after about 7 miles turn off to the right toward the Arizona Snow Bowl ski area. There is a good paved road which goes 6.7 miles up to the ski area. On the left just before the ski area gate is a large parking area which is the Humphreys Peak trailhead. To reach the summit take this trail which is about 4 miles one-way to the top with an elevation gain of about 3300 ft. The hike takes about 3 to 3 3/4 hours one-way to the summit for most hikers, but some runners can make it in 1 3/4 hours. In the summer months start early and try to be off the high summit by noon to avoid lightning and thunderstorms which can quickly develop. About 3 miles down from the trailhead is forest road 522 which heads east. A short way into the pine forest on this road has some good camping areas at a high elevation. 7/99 RLC
