Ascent Trip Report

As far as I can determine, Kitchen Mountain is the 5th highest named summit point in Mississippi. My son, Marshall, and I had a difficult time locating an access point because so much of the area was posted land. Finally we found a non-posted ATV trail on the south side of the mountain that allowed us to park my car out of view of the main road. We had a long hike from here of a little over a mile on a network of trails to the summit. It was a pleasant hike, except for the worry of coming across an unhappy deer hunter, but we never saw anyone, even though the trails showed evidence of heavy ATV use. There was not much of a view from the summit due to the forest, but it was plenty clear enough for our traditional summit photo.
