Ascent Trip ReportAfter borrowing my father in law's car for the New Year's trip to the Poconos, I picked them up at Newark Liberty Airport from their trip to Miami. After unpacking their luggage at their home in Staten Island and a quick bite to eat, my father in law needed to drop by his office in Red Hook for a meeting and offered to drop me off near a subway station to get back to the City.
He let me out at the 25th Street R Train station and drove off to his meeting. It occurred to me that I was close enough to Greenwood Cemetery to walk in and take a look that I should take this opportunity to do so.
I walked up 25th Street to the main entrance on 5th Avenue and then proceeded up the cemetery's "Battle Avenue" to the various Battle Hill historical markers. After marveling at the placards, Civil War Memorial, and Altar to Liberty, I ambled up to the Philip and Latifee Kiamie Mausoleum at the obvious highpoint of the hill. With no leaves on the trees it made for a beautiful vantage point of the downtown Manhattan and Jersey City skylines.
Once I was sufficiently cold and sufficiently weirded out by the cemetery, I headed back to the R train and back home in the City.
