Ascent Trip ReportFirst big hike of official winter '11-'12. Warm temps to start after a night of rain - 40s at the trailhead and slushy snow mixed with lots of running water on the Imp trail (which now resembles a river more than a trail). Wet snow on the ground started on North Carter and just enough that we switched to snow shoes as we crossed the ridge on the Carter-Moriah trail. Kept snowshoes on until after Carter Dome, then switched to crampons for climb in and out of the notch. Lots of ice on steeps - too much for microspikes. Kept them on across teh Wildcat ridge. Light snow fell all day - and by the time we reached wildcat ridge - a fresh inch of powder on top and lower temps had firmed up the footing a bit. Reached top of ski slopes by 4pm and then sledded down the one groomed trail - lots of fun. Lost my over mitt during the sledding - but was luckily found by a snowboarder out for a late day ride.
