Ascent of Round Top on 2006-07-29
|Date:||Saturday, July 29, 2006|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||10381 ft / 3164 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI started at Carson Pass Highway 88, took PCT south, then forked off west towards Winnemucca Lake before a side jaunt up Elephant's Back. After getting to the top of Round Top via the southeast ridge, I learned that the most popular way up Round Top was from the west ridge and that most of the casual hikers stopped just short of the peak of Round Top at a sort of false summit rather than crossing a very challenging for me 40 foot or so class 3 notch. On the way down to the west the Sisters were looking very appealing yet difficult, I passed on it for the time being feeling too tired to try and deal with them solo. Glissaded down a decent distance towards Round Top Lake, and then continued to Woods Lake while eyeballing the terrain towards Black Butte for a possible future combined trip with the sisters. Luckily I was able to hitch a ride with some fellow hikers I chatted with on the way down the 2 or so miles back to my car.
