Ascent Trip ReportFrom the City of Ashland and the corner of Siskiyou Blvd and Tolman Creek Road, zero your tripmeter and go south on Tolman Creek Road. At 3.6 miles the pavement ends, at 7.1 miles take the right fork, and at 8.3 miles park at Four Corners. All the roads except the one I came in on are gated. Hike the middle road with the white gate.
This is a long road walk if you hike the road. At about 4.5 miles take the road off to the right and in another mile take the left fork. This road climbs up to a saddle and ends. There is a trail that comes up from the other side of the saddle and goes up to the top of Winburn Ridge. You will have to look around for the trail. I didn't find it until I came back down. The road and trail do not meet, but this area has been thinned and it is easy hiking. No views because of the forest.
It would have been a quicker hike to hike down through the East Fork Ashland Creek drainage. It looks like you would have to lose about 500 ft of elevation, cross the creek, and then climb back up. It would have cut at least 8 miles off the hike. It is a pretty area and a nice hike. Lots of mountain bikers use the Ashland Loop Road.
