Ascent Trip ReportI approached Peak 4940 from the Mt Ashland Road. Take the Mt Ashland exit from I-5 and start up the road towards Mt Ashland. A couple miles up the road is a turn-off on your left for Colestin. Zero your odometer and take his turn-off. Go 2.4 miles and turn right on FR 40S06. At 0.9 miles go straight at the Penny Pines area, at 5.3 miles take the left fork, at 7.9 miles pass FR 40S02 on the right. At 10.3 miles reach Four Corners and go straight a couple hundred yards and park along the road.
I hiked south up through the forest to the high point. There is lots of logging debris on the ground and a maze of old logging and skidder trails. I used some of these trails climbing, but the forest was open enough that they were not necessary. No views because of the forest.
