Ascent Trip Report

out-n-back from Zealand Road; closed in the winter so we had to break trail on Zealand Rd to Zealand trail, where cross country skiers had broken trail for us heading in to Zealand Hut. Couldn't find the trail for 20min on the Twinway where snow crowded the trees in a narrow section of trail, but then we finally found the trail and ran into a couple who had not gone to the real summit but broke some trail out to the spur. One of the largest spruce traps I have seen EVER was suffered by the woman who had broken trail. The way out we warmed up and ate dinner at the hut, where the strangest group of AMC folks were hanging out just to sleep over and walk out the following day. NO ONE was there to thru hike the Bonds! No headlamps on the way out, nice glow to the snow despite no moon.
