Ascent Trip ReportA round trip finishing with a boat across the Wolfgangersee makes for a glorious day. I was staying in St Gilgen for the advent market and took advantage of exceptional warm, dry December weather to make an easy and enjoyable ascent. Starting from my hotel in St Gilgen I walked around the head of the lake to Winkl, and up on good paths through drifts of bronze leaves to the Schafbergalm on the shoulder of the mountain. A stepped path leads to a final steep track over grass to the summit, with entrancing views over the Mondsee, Attersee, Dachstein mountains and much more. Then back by the Dorneralm path, again through woods, to St Wolfgang, where a short walk through the advent market took me to the St Gilgen boat pier.
