Climber: Douglas Almquist

Date:Sunday, October 16, 2011
Ascent Type:Unsuccessful - Turned Back
Point Reached:Silver Tip Peak - Twin Lakes
    Location:USA-Washington
    Elevation:5481 ft / 1670 m
    Remaining Elevation:659 ft / 201 m (17% left to go)

Ascent Trip Report

We biked from the gate: 5.8 miles to Monte Cristo (11.6 round trip)
Total Hiking Distance from Monte Cristo: 14 miles

As we approached the peak, we found the trail we were on was frozen and the peak itself had too much snow and ice for our party. Someone didn't get the memo about crampons and ice axes being required (sigh). I wasn't feeling fantastic as it turned out so this was a good day for a turn around. We headed up the Twin Lakes trail and were pleasantly surprised with stunning views of Columbia Peak, twin lakes and much of the central Cascades. Very nice!
