Ascent Trip Report

From the junction of SC-288 & SC-8 in Pumpkintown, head S on SC-8. At 0.5 mile, pass the junction with SC-135 (which is on the L). At 1.0 miles, turn R on Midway Rd. At 3.0 miles, turn R on Hidden Valley Rd aka CR-48. Two abandoned buildings landmark the turnoff: a red brick building before it, and a wood shack after. At 3.9 miles the road tops out at a saddle, with a house for sale on the L. It showed every sign of being vacant, but to be safe, I parked about 0.1 mile E of it, where a power line crosses the road.

I hiked up the service road under the power line, just a few hundred feet, until I found a side road heading into the forest up the NE ridge of Brown Mtn. The road traversed the R (W) side of the ridge and eventually gained the crest at a bump inside the 456m contour on MyTopo. Continuing up the ridge, I soon reached the 534m+ subpeak about 1000' E of the main peak. Turning W, I continued in open forest up the E ridge to the summit.
