Ascent Trip ReportA normal trail hike over 4 peaks ...... 8.1 miles, 5h00 hour RT.
Rose dropped me off at the east side TH, Junction of Old Albany Road North and Reservoir lane (about 3 miles south of I84 on hwy 9), she'll spend the time shopping at Poughkeepsie. I climbed the westbound yellow blazed trail to the notch between Scofield Ridge and Lambs Hill, just past the height-of-land the trail makes a sharp left turn and climbs to a small col where a short spur trail right takes to SCOFIELD RIDGE NORTH ..... a nice rock outcrop decorated with the USA Flag on a wooden pole, nice views to the north. I returned to the col and continued on the yellow blazed trail east bound to SCOFIELD RIDGE where the trail turns right and follows the Ridge southbound going over all of the 4 High Point Candidates except for the very north candidate (the trail stays to its east side, so I left the trail and bushwacked southbound the whole length of this candidate going over all of its high spots). The middle candidate and the southwest one (offers good views) are very impressive rocky outcrops, and appear to be "the" HP of SCOFIELD RIDGE. The yellow trail circles the southeast candidate, hard to pick a highpoint here.
Soon after leaving the southwest candidate eastbound for the southeast one, a blue trail leaves to the right and drops westbound for the col with SOUTH BEACON MOUNTAIN, at about 400 yards it comes to a T-Junction with a red trail (a wide track), I turned right for 300 yards to another T-Junction with a white trail (just before a height-of-land). I made a sharp left turn on the white trail and climbed 400 yards to the summit of SOUTH BEACON MOUNTAIN ...... outstanding open rock outcrop summit with views in all directions, especially to the northwest with North Beacon Mountain and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge over the mighty Hudson River, the old Fire Tower (in bad shape and not accessible) appears to be in the process of being repaired. I took a good break here before backtracking my ascending route to the TH, Rose had arrived 1 hour earlier.
