Ascent Trip ReportMy first Colorado 14er. I only had a day so I picked an easy one and the highest one at that. Wasn't so easy after all. It was supposed to be around 55 degrees and cloudy in Leadville, but when I got there it was 42 and raining all afternoon. Naturally, it was snowing higher up. Since I was there I decided to make an attempt and see how high I got. Solid snow of 3-4 inches above 12'000 feet. Higher up there was more with about a foot in places. It started to get windy and snowing steadily. There were two climbers a few hundred yards ahead of me and I figured I'll go as long as they do. I followed them all the way and got to the summit within a minute or two. We decided to turn around after a couple of pictures, because the weather got really nasty. Memorable hike and I was glad that I brought essential gear, warm clothing, beanie, gloves etc. You just never know.
