Ascent Trip ReportTalcott Mtn typifies the topography of central CT: a series of long N-S trending ridges. Access is through Talcott Mtn State Park from the N on CT-185. I initially tried from US-44 on the S, but private property blocks access from Montevideo Rd.
From CT-185 about 1½ miles E of CT-10, I turned into the park on Summit Ridge Dr. After 0.2 mile I reached the TH which has a large pullout on the R side. I then took the yellow-blazed trail 1.3 miles to the Hublein Tower near the summit. There are some overlooks with good views to the W enroute.
The Hublein Tower is well worth a visit, and you can climb the steps to the top of the tower when staffed (probably only during business hours). The highest ground, however, is a small rockpile ~200 yards S, past some picnic tables and a small communications site.
