Ascent Trip Report

I have driven by the turn-off for the bilk Creek Mountains at least 20 times in the last few years. I finally drove out there and tagged this one. From Denio Jct on Hwy 140 go south 0.5 mile and turn left on wilder Creek Road, drive through the farm/ranch and keep going east. At 6.6 miles merge with another road from the right and enter another ranch area. At 6.9 miles pass an old ranch on the left, take the right fork and stay right. At 7.1 miles pass a cow swimming hole on the right and stay right on the better road. At 7.9 miles merge with a road coming from the left and there is a campsite on the right. At 9.1 miles pass through a gate and then the road gets rougher rutted and may be impasable if wet. At 9.6 miles cross a small creek and then the road ruts get huge. At 11.4 reach a saddle at 6,200 ft and then continue down into the valley beyond. At 14.8 miles I stopped at the base of a switchback that starts the final ascent up to the summit. I probably could have driven this steep, rutted, canted road way, but it didn't look good to me. Actually the road gets better once you are above this questionable area.

I hiked the road up to the summit from where I parked. Good views in all directions.
