Ascent Trip ReportI approached Peak 4940 from the town of Halfway. go east to the signed Buchanan Loop road, turn right and zero your odometer. At 0.8 there is a bridge washout with a temporary route built around, at 1.2 miles turn left on Pine Town Lane, at 2.5 miles go straight, at 2.8 take the right fork, at 7.6 miles take the left fork, at 8.8 miles go over a pass, at 9.1 miles the road turns left or north (Round Mtn is up the hill to the right). At 11.5 miles take the right fork, and at 11.8 miles I parked on a hill at about 3,720 ft elevation.
I hiked north, reached the ridgeline and followed it directly north to the high point. There is a small comm building on the summit. The hiking is easy though grass, grasshoppers, and a few rocky areas. Great views to the east and the Snake River Canyon. In places you can see the Brownlee Dam on the river.
