Ascent Trip Report

We drove up the very long and very winding road up to the Lick Observatory. It took some looking around and soon we noticed the fire tower on top of Copernicus Peak. We first went to the visitor center at the observatory and asked one of the workers there if we can hike up to the highpoint. They said it's "not sanctioned" but they wouldn't tell anyone if we did. So we set off on a very short 1-mile roundtrip to the peak.

We followed the road and soon saw the gate with a few warning signs and quickly went through the gap in the barbed wire fence. A few more hundred feet and we were at the top taking pictures. The views are pretty good even on a hazy summer day.
