Ascent Trip ReportFrom Pryor Junction, I headed N on Pryor Gap Rd, which was narrow and uneven and a sedan may have trouble. At mile 3.5 I crossed a cattle guard. At mile 4.0 I parked at junction 4994 on MyTopo, where the side road to the L is just a grassy two-track in a pasture. Cows were grazing nearby, though I saw no adverse signage.
I headed up the grassy track to the N and climbed the ridge in that direction. The crest of the ridge harbored occasional castellated limestone outcrops, which were usually not a factor except for one short section at ~6200', where I scrambled class 2/3 up a broad gully to the right of the prow. Then the gradient eased, but deadfall became more frequent, eventually becoming a factor. I intercepted a cow trail which I could not follow consistently. There was a small herd grazing in an open meadow N of point 6570. Upon arrival in the highest (6680') contour, I observed that point 6688 is definitely not the highest ground. The bulge at the NW end of the contour is quite flat, whereas the long SE lobe is higher and sharper. My GPS corroborated this observation, placing the ridge ~8-10' higher than the wider but flatter NW bulge.
