Ascent Trip ReportStarted at Cathedral Rock Trail Head around 845 and got to camp around 1pm at Peggy's Pond. To get to trailhead you must cross a river fjord that crosses Scatter Creek--due to the rain and snow melt it was a fairly high water level on the way in and very high on the way out. We started on a maintained trail, but there was about 7 downed trees crossing the path and we hit snow probably at 4300'. Once past Cathedral Rock we got on the PCT and then right onto trail 1375 heading away from Deep Lake that can be seen below. We followed this up to Peggy's Pond, which was camp, around 1.
Left for the summit at 4am. Climbed up onto the East ridge at around 6300' and then traversed around 6100' (this avoided the rock and little snow on scree from above and the cliffs from below). Traverse this for about 2.5miles and then make your way up to the second ridge called the Lynch draw. We moved to the far right of the ridge and this led to a slope heading down to pea soup lake. Pea soup was snow covered, but the edges were melting out. We did not cross pea soup, but were instead able to traverse left around the lake due to the snow covering the steep scree slopes and get directly onto the lynch glacier. From here we roped up and headed up the lynch (a fairly quick ascent). There was an open crevasse at the top of the glacier, but a big step gets you over it. The highest summit (west) is on the right with an easy and short scramble to the top. At this point conditions were white out, with winds and rain.
The descent was much faster because we bypassed the traverse that needed to be taken to get onto the lynch and traversed around the east summit. There was a visible path scramblers take to get to the summit, so we followed this and traversed some shallow snow areas to get to the east slope. Easy plunge stepping back to peggy's pond and then 2.5 hours from camp to cars.
