Ascent Trip ReportA bushwack from campground ..... 300 yards, 15 minutes RT.
We found our way to the main entrance of Homestead Park Campground (intersection of Oak Hill/Frew Run Roads) at #73 Frew Run Road. There is no gate or warning signs, so we drove south into the campground staying left of the pool recreation area, then straight to the very top end of the Campground ..... straight ahead is a row of trailers and to the right a sign on a tree reads "Geritol Hill", we turned left and parked at the dead-end in front of trailer #H24 & H25. The BM is to the southeast on the ridge at about 100 yards.
We talked to the lady at H24, she was aware of the BM. "But I've never been back there". She told us the numerous people have been here.
While I was away a man went up to Rose (who waited in the van) wanting to know what she was doing there. "Oh that's fine, a couple from California was here recently for the same purpose, I'm sorry to have disturbed you."
I walked between the 2 trailers southeast to the top of the ridge, and at 100 yards found the BM imbedded in concrete (with little effort in the open woods), "US Coast & Geodetic Survey, Gurnsey, 1935", my GPS read 42.03311, 79.06138. Not necessarily the highest ground in this area so I stomped the area touching the high spots.
On the way out I told the lady at H24 that I easily found the BM, "I must go up there one day.", she offered.
"WITH EVERY FAILURE IN LIFE THERE IS SEED OF OPPORTUNITY."
