Ascent Trip ReportIt was a cool fall day early in the morning. We climbed up the Green Leaf trail following it up to the Green Leaf Hut. We stopped to get a bite to eat. I bought some potato and onion soup and bread. The soup looked like dirty dish water and tasted that way too. It was not too appetizing, but the apricot bread/biscut was pretty good. It was good to get the heavy backpack off. Once we began our ascent to Mt Lafayette the weather began to improve. The trail was heavily travelled with lots of people going up and coming down. Once we got to the top, it was a little windy and cold. But the views were amazing. We camped out at the Liberty Springs tent site. It was a little crowded when we got there, but we found a site We pitched a tent next to guy who was in a bivy bag. He was making strange noises all night and morning.
When we awoke, there was light coat of snow around us. We decided as a group not continue as planned to Liberty and Flume, darn! I'll have to get those next time. We descended down Liberty Trail. That cup of coffee at the visitors center was one of the best cups of coffee I had!!
