Ascent Trip ReportBeside hwy 49 at 75 yards.
From the Escoheag Hill, RI, we found our way back to hwy #165 and drove west (5.2 miles) into Connecticut and the intersection of 165/49 in Voluntown, CT. We turned right and drove north on 49 for 6.7 miles to the crest-of-the-road, parked here, the PB summit is to the left.
On the right were a bunch of grazing cows and on the left an "opening in the stone wall", with a farm track leading west 75 yards to the high ground at contour 670', in a huge plowed field (not yet sown) with a John Deer manure feeder was parked there. I walked up and picked my spot at GPS 41.66887, 71.84899.
Rose found a "US Coast & Geodetic Survey Azimuth Mark, Stepling 1937" imbedded in the large rock, to the left side of the "opening in the stone wall". My GPS read 41.69903, 71.84826.
We drove back south on 49 abt .3 miles to a drive way on the right. We parked here and walked west 250 yards to the Communication Tower, stomped around some. I don't have the necessary equipment to confirm but my guess is that the high ground is at the larger contour to the north and not here.
This completes our hiking in beautiful RI, we are know headed west into CT.
