Ascent of Paradise Craggy on 2011-06-14
|Date:||Tuesday, June 14, 2011|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4888 ft / 1489 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI approached Paradise Craggy from the north. You can also get there from Yreka. I was driving from Oregon south on I-5 and took exit 790 and wesnt east for 2.2 miles to Copco Road where I turned left and went an additional 2.3 miles to Ager Road where I turned right, crossed the Klamath River and went 9.8 miles to a dirt road on the right with a hanging down sign indicating Paradise Craggy Road. There is a locked gate here, so I parked along Ager Road and hiked the road.
After climbing over the first gate, I went through 3 more gates before getting to the ridge at about 4,300 ft. There is a home a couple hundred yards off to the left, a couple old Ford Mustang bodies at this crossroads, and a less used road going northeast towards the summit.
On the summit is a fire lookout. It is quite picturesque, perched on a rocky craggy summit with steps carved into the rock. There are about 150 steps up to the fire lookout. Someone has spent lots of time making this fire lookout look special. The outhouse is perched seemingly in the air with a fantastic view of Mt Shasta. Great views from this peak.
