Ascent Trip ReportI approached Johnny O'Neil Ridge from Hwy 96 going west. Zero your odometer at the 96/263 intersection and go west on Hwy 96. At 27.7 miles turn right cross a brown bridge to a single lane paved road. At 30.0 the pavement ends and FR 12 is on your right, continue straight to 30.4 adn then turn left on 46N60. At 30.6 there is an open gate, and at 34.2 reach a saddle on a ridge ignore the road going left and continue straight to mile 38.4, elevation 3790. This is where I parked at the high point of the road.
I hiked up the wooded slope towards the high point, I hiked over the lower peak between where I parked and the high point. Most of the hike is through the forest and there aren't great views because of the trees. I did get some glimpses of the Red Buttes to the north. My GPS was handy in finding where I parked...
