Ascent Trip Report

After our early morning Arakhnaion Oros ascent, we headed back towards Athens, crossing the Corinthian canal - a striking deep limestone cutting.

We left the E94 motorway and drove though the town of Megara. This was complicated by the fact that the Satnav had the one-way system wrong, but we found our way through and picked up the road to the village of Chani Dreveni.

The Makriplani turnoff is just beyond this village: a L turn at N38.02211 E23.21002. The road is initially concrete but soon deteriorates to gravel/dirt - never very bad but fairly rough in places and requiring care in a normal passenger car. The summit is dominated by a large air traffic control mast, although the highest point is a limestone outcrop (N38.02038 E23.13251, 1351m), unfenced and easily reached from the highpoint of the dirt road. From the turnoff, the drive-up took 40 minutes, and the descent a similar time. We then headed back to the airport.

Thus ended a very enjoyable trip, tough at times ( Liakoura/Parnassos ! ), including 22 summits of which 21 were P600m and 7 were Ultras.
