Ascent Trip ReportA well maintained trail through scenic desert mesas--one of my favorite state high points so far among those that are not major mountains. The first two miles are nearly flat, less than 100 feet of elevation gain. After that the trail climbs slowly for a bit more than a quarter mile, and then steeply for slightly less than a mile. About 80% of the total elevation gain is in this grade. After that the last piece (slightly less than a mile) is again nearly flat. My only criticism is that the trail seems to meander a bit more than necessary. On the way down I followed GPS headings to my way points and cut nearly 0.6 mi. from the distance (with a few extra feet of elevation gain over a small rise).
