Ascent Trip Report

Slept up the canyon to Taos Ski area - just a turn out on the left. Woke up around 6 am, got everything put together and went to the Lake Williams trailhead - started hiking around 7:10 am. Hiked up and reached Williams lake - was beautiful, could see a big horn sheep feeding on side hill. From there started very steep ascent. Along the way saw a ton of pika and marmots. Reached the summit in about 3 hours. Great view, could see several big horn sheep, and a number of them were large rams. (On the top, I realized I had dropped my camera on the trail somewhere, just then, a guy from Arkansas that we had passed earlier came up and asked "who is the a$$hole that lost his camera that is going to carry my fat A$$ off of this mountain?!" - we all laughed and I told him it was me. He then related how he came upon it with a marmot going to town on the case, so he had to throw rocks and hit the marmot 4 times - nearly killing it - and finally got the marmot to drop it. It had torn through the case and the memory cards and batteries were all over the mountain. - he swore every other word and it was SO entertaining.) We decided to go down Bull-of-the-Woods Trail, and it was a HUGE mistake, we figure it added atleast an hour of hiking and was just a LONG road out. If we were to do it again I would go Williams Lake everytime. - Other members of the party dropped off and bush wacked down off of Bull of the woods trail head and it was also a good choice.
