Ascent Trip ReportI thought I would ride my mountain bike up to Peak and McPherson. The Bates Canyon road has been closed for almost 3 years. Since it is not driven it is loosing its compaction, it is covered with rocks. There was a lot of water running down the canyon that made for some fun stream crossing. At the start of the ride I saw some huge bird track? Huge! Around the next bend I saw two BIG turkeys. Up near the top, on the north facing slopes I had to push my bike through snow. In the snow I saw nice fresh Mountain Lion tracks. There was no snow on top of the ridge but I did see a pile of steaming bear scatt with perfect bear tracks leading from it. This adventure was a little harder than I thought it would be. 30 miles and 6,000 feet of gain. It took 6 hours. Perfect weather, I wore one shirt all day.
