Ascent Trip Report

I hiked Cunningham Mtn. with Ken Russell. At virtual milepost 96.2 on US Hwy 95 we turned west on an unmarked gravel road near a large gas line red and white valve. This is a straight road that follows a power line built with metal poles. The metal pole line goes all the way to the top of Cunningham Mtn. At 7.0 miles from Hwy 95 turn left on an unsigned gravel road between 2 “Caution High Pressure Gas Line” signs. Follow this road for only .2 mile and park near a locked gate that blocks the road.

We hiked this steep road all the way to the summit. The summit is occupied by several buildings and comm. towers. The benchmark and the high point are about 50 ft apart along the summit ridge. Great views in all directions. If the gate is unlocked, I would not recommend driving up. The road is definitely 4WD and high clearance is required.
