Ascent Trip Report

We made a go for this one looking for a short hike for the afternoon. There wasn't much info to be found route-wise on the internet, but Google maps gave the impression that a road led up to the saddle south of the peak from near the reservoir, then a fire break (seen in the satellite view) led north to the peak.

The road was a bit overgrown with a nice trail most of the way to the saddle, but then it doubled back in an unexpected way. A couple of use trails leave the path at this point. We did some pretty heavy bushwhacking up one trail to a even bushier ridge before we turned back. For our failed effort, we got many scratches, a few ticks a piece, and a pretty extensive case of poison oak...

It turns out that Google maps incorrectly marks the route of the road - it in fact does a hairpin turn back to the east at the point where the use trails start, then contours around a ridge to the south. Word is that it gets quite overgrown, but there is a ridge with a use trail you can cut off onto far before this. The best (and only) description I found of a workable route from this side is at:
