Ascent of Negro Hill on 2010-11-20

Ascent Trip Report

After descending Queen Mtn/BM, I headed to Pine City, which was not as interesting as I had hoped. From Pine City, I followed the well-traveled trail SSW about a mile or so until I split off due SW to the summit of Negro Hill. The sun was setting as I summited so I took a flash pic on top. Just as I began to descend, the rain began. It was very light, so I didn't bother to stop for my jacket. I just kept on going. I descended a gully on the NW side of the hill and attempted to follow the 'trail' west back to my car along the road. Be warned, the Old Queen Valley Historic Road has all but faded back to nature. It is almost impossible to follow in the dark (without a headlamp) under cloudy skies. I did it by just heading due west across the desert. I think it would be a little easier to follow in the daylight... Overall, a wonderful hike despite the rain and darkness!
