Ascent of Dutchman Butte on 2010-11-11

Peak:Dutchman Butte
    Location:USA-Oregon
    Elevation:3907 ft / 1190 m

Ascent Trip Report

I accesssed Dutchman Peak from Hwy 42 after visiting nearby Table Mountain. There is a road that kind of follows the ridge line between the two peaks. I did have to drive through an active logging operation near Live Oak Mountain that was spread on both sides of the road. The access to Live Oak Mountain was blocked by the logging. There is a maze of logging roads up here and a good map/GPS is essential. The road up to the fire lookout is gated, so I parked and hiked up. The fire lookout is kind of unique in that it is a standard square building, but the tower only has 3 legs. The fire lookout itself is fenced off, so you can't climb it. Nice views.
