Ascent Trip ReportSierra and I met Michael near the end of Spruceton Rd for a loop to Rusk, Hunter, and SW Hunter around 8:00 AM. The first ten minutes or so were quite cold, but as soon as we started to the ascend the side of Rusk, the steep grade and sunlight forced us to shed some layers. There was a soft base of snow above 3500', which led us to use the microspikes on occasion. We found the canister on Rusk quickly, and then followed the ridge to East Rusk. The first difficult bushwhacking was on the east side of East Rusk, so we dropped down to the Spruceton Trail once again. The evergreen canopy kept the snow from melting, despite the fact that temperatures were in the 50's all day. We followed the Spruceton Trail to Hunter, with a long break to enjoy the scene at the John Robb lean-to. We took the Devil's Path to the turn for SW Hunter and reached the summit rather quickly. After a brief stop at Diamond Falls, we headed back to the cars just early enough to keep the headlamps in the packs. Total Mileage - 12.5
