Ascent Trip ReportHiked Hancock and South Hancock from the Hancock Notch Trail to Cedar Brook Trail and Hancock Loop. Had big storm the night before and had to four stream crossings on the way in; ford the brook once, crawl across a fallen dead tree and used rocks with a seven foot jump down on two other sections of the stream. One the way back a bushwaked to avoid the stream BS. Between peaks a Spruce Grouse was in the trail and I stopped and watched it for a couple of minutes. Before I realized it the grouse went after me and i had to beat the thing away with my hiking poles before I too ran off. It was comical and really funny. Those things can get really pissed off. Won't stop coming after me either until I literally ran off 50 feet. Had I stayed it would have kept trying to peck at me until I thumped it dead. Now I understand why they say 'dummer than a spruce grouse". they just don't know when to quit!
