Ascent Trip ReportMt. Hamilton lies on the grounds of the National Arboretum, admission free.
From the intersection of Bladensburg Road with New York Avenue (US-50), drive south on Bladensburg for four blocks, turn left (E) onto R Street and take into the Arboretum grounds. Follow signs for the azaleas and turn right, then right again shortly after entering the grounds. This road circles Mt. Hamilton. Shortly after starting uphill, turn left into a parking area at a sign for the Mt. Hamilton trail. A paved road ascends the summit, but it is closed to vehicular traffic. Walk the road about a half-mile to the summit, gaining 120 feet and see high ground within the small road loop at the summit.
As of October, 2010, the grounds are open 8-5 every day except Christmas.
