Ascent Trip Report

I hiked Jeff Davis with Al and Collin from Blue Lake Road. The hike to the summit block is easy through low brush. The summit block was a bit of an adventure. This is a rock climb and I took the lead. After a little Class 3 scramble, we came to a crack that looks pretty vertical. I climbed up 75-90 ft and set an anchor where there were several slings around a rapel point. I belayed up both Al and Collin. I estimate this portion as Class 5.4 because I am not much of a rock climber. After we were together again we crawled through a tunnel to another crack/chminey that leads to the summit. There doesn't seem to be a way to safely protect this part, so we crawled into a tunnel and then stood up in the chimney. From there we climbed up about 20ft in a narrow slot that brought us up close to the summit. We signed the register and then climbed back down the chimney. This chimney is kind of narrow. We took our turns rapelling down from the rapel station. This was Al and Collin's first time rapelling. It was dark by the time I got to the bottom of the rapel and we hiked out using our headlamps.
