Ascent Trip Report

A vintage day on a very nice, interesting and, at times, challenging, route on this K-country peak. I went with a group of 8 from the Alpine Club of Canada, Calgary section.
The climb involved some bushwhacking to approach the ridge, steep hiking and scrambling to get onto the ridge, lots of walking on the very exposed ridge itself and the occassional technical move or two. Some of us got short-roped for safety on small sections of the ridge. This was one of those instances when I appreciated being with a larger group, with an experienced trip leader. (Most of my mountain climbs have been solo or with a buddy or two)
We had to deal with some small but steep snowfield crossings just below the summit. Great views of the continental divide ranges, as well as the Front Ranges. We chose a descent via the southern, more mellow side of the peak - still quite steep and treacherous at some spots.
All in all, a superb day, one of my all-time Top 5 faves in the Canadian Rockies (the others would be: Mt. Wilcox, Mt. Temple, Mt. Chephren and Mt. Carnarvon, honourable mention to Mt. Edith)
