Ascent of Mount Stella on 2010-09-12

Date:Sunday, September 12, 2010
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Mount Stella
    Location:USA-Oregon
    Elevation:4715 ft / 1437 m

Ascent Trip Report

I accessed Mount Stella from Hwy 230 and turned on FR 6510 that goes to Hershberger Lookout. I stayed on FR 6510 until I reached a saddle at the point labelled 3967' on the topo and there I turned left on FR 200. In a short distance I found a locked gated fork on the left that goes up to the summit area. I parked at the gate and hiked the road to the summit. The Fire Lookout has been abandoned and is in disrepair. There is an old garage here also. The benchmark is missing. The high point appears to be a large rounded rock down near the garage along the path to the fire lookout. No good views from the fire lookout area because of the forest. There are views at the switchback to the south where a working weather station has been erected.
