Ascent of Rocktop Butte on 2010-09-12
|Date:||Sunday, September 12, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||6426 ft / 1958 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI approached Rocktop Butte from Hwy 62 turning on FR 60 the Mill Creek Ridge Road. I turned off of FR 60 onto FR 6215 which passes on the west side of Huckleberry Mtn and then FR 800 for around to the 6221/Rocktop saddle where an unmarked road branches to the left and goes directly at the summmit of Rocktop. This last road isn't used much and is not maintained. It is kind of rocky and when I got to within .38 mile of the summit of Rocktop, the road was blocked by 2 large trees that have fallen over the road. I hiked from there up the road to a steep rocky summit area. I had to do some light bushwhacking and some minor rock scrambling to get up to the ridge and then followed the rocky ridge to the high point. Great views from this summit. Crater Lake, Union Pk, Thielsen Bailey, McLoughlin and others can be seen. Nice area and fun little hike.
