Ascent of Steamboat Mountain on 2010-09-09
|Date:||Thursday, September 9, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4161 ft / 1268 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Steamboat Mountain from Star Gulch Road. I parked at Young Gap on the northwest ridge. From the gap I followed an old logging road up a steep slope to subpeak 4035 and then dropped about 140 ft down to the 4035/Steamboat saddle before climbing up the steep slope to the summit. The north slope of Steamboat has been recently brushed/thinned so it is easy hiking. The old logging road ends near the summit of 4035, but it is open country and easy to continue on to Steamboat. The top couple hundred feet of Steamboat has not been brushed or thinned so I had to find a way around a couple brushy areas. The high point is a rock outcropping that is protected by some buck brush. Good views from the summit.
