Ascent of Potter Mountain on 2010-09-01
|Date:||Wednesday, September 1, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||6142 ft / 1872 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Potter Mtn from Toketee Falls and FR 34 from Hwy 138. If you are so inclined the Umpqua Hot Springs is just off FR 34 and is a popular destination for the "clothing optional" crowd. On this rainy cloudy day there were several cars parked at the TH for the hot springs. The road to Potter Mtn branches off of FR 34 at a saddle on top of the ridge to the west. I parked along this road and hiked up the southwest ridge of Potter Mtn to a rocky summit. The southwest ridge has seen some recent thinning activity to cover up an old dirt bike trail. The rocky summit looked challenging at first, but I went around the left side and climbed up a rocky slope to the summit. It was a rainy cloudy day and I had no views. I think there would be good views on a clear day.
